Reacts with sialylated Lea-active pentasaccharide (sialylated lacto-N-fucopentaose II) which is enzymatically synthesized by sialylation of type 1 carbohydrate chains. The CA 19-9 antigen has been immunohistochemically demonstrated in ductal epithelium of the breast, kidney, salivary glands and sweat glands. The antibody reacts with epithelium of the lung and the colon, pancreatic acini and ducts, biliary epithelium in the liver and ductal epithelium of the prostate. Results aid in the classification of gastrointestinal carcinomas, including adenocarcinomas of the stomach, intestine, and pancreas.
