Trovan® Animal Microchips: Permanent Identification for a Lifetime of Care
Permanent animal identification depends not only on the presence of a microchip, but on the quality, durability and readability of the technology behind it. At Ngaio Diagnostics, we supply Trovan® microchips, trusted by veterinary professionals, zoos, and animal welfare organisations worldwide for reliable animal identification.
Precision Engineered for Performance

Trovan ID162VB/1.4 microchips are supplied in a pre-sterilised, disposable single-piece implanter for ease of use. Measuring just 8 mm long and 1.4 mm in diameter, smaller than a grain of rice, the transponder is one of the smallest implantable animal microchips available.
Designed and manufactured in Germany, Trovan ID162VB/1.4 microchips are engineered to provide dependable performance:
- Manufactured in an ISO 13485-certified facility, meeting international quality standards for medical device production
- Biocompatible glass encapsulation with laser-sealed construction that protects the internal electronics throughout the animal’s lifetime
- Patented direct bonding design with fewer internal connection points reducing potential failure points and supporting long-term reliability
- Laser-programmed integrated circuit with a unique 64-bit identification code, providing permanent, individual identification designed to remain operational throughout the animal’s lifetime
- ISO 11784/11785 FDX-B compliant, operating at 134.2 kHz for compatibility with standard animal identification scanners
- Sterile, single-use implanter with sharper needle and double bevel for easy insertion
Why Microchip Technology Matters
Successful animal identification depends on more than simply having a microchip present. Read range, read area and read speed all influence how readily an implanted chip can be detected during scanning. Trovan identifies these as critical performance characteristics and has engineered its microchip systems around fast, dependable detection.
Reliability is also influenced by how a microchip is constructed. Trovan’s patented design uses approximately one-third of the connection points and components found in conventionally assembled microchips, providing the lowest fail rate of any microchip brand. Precision laser sealing further supports long-term protection of the internal electronics.
